Why Your Railway Apps Are Still Running After the Hack #cybersecurity #devtips #tech
Last week, we reported on the Railway security breach. Now, the company’s preliminary investigation has revealed something important: up to 100,000 workspaces have been affected. That’s an upper estimate, not a confirmed number of compromised customers.
But the number isn’t the most interesting part. Attackers gained access to internal systems and obtained some decrypted application secrets, and they appeared particularly interested in AI provider API keys. Meanwhile, existing applications continued running.
Think about that for a moment. A website can be operating perfectly while the credentials behind it are compromised, and those credentials may provide access to other connected services.
The investigation now needs to establish how far that access could extend, because restoring your application is one thing. Restoring trust in everything connected to it is another.
