DreamHost Resets Passwords After Unexplained Incident

· Watch on YouTube

Imagine your web host changing the locks on your email and website files. That’s what some DreamHost customers have just experienced. The hosting company reset passwords after an incident disrupted several services.

And there’s a new development this morning. DreamHost says its file manager is back online, but some customers still need new passwords to gain access. And the company hasn’t publicly explained what caused the incident.

Here’s the detail I’d pay attention to. Affected customers have also been told to check for unfamiliar email forwarding rules. Those rules could quietly send copies of business emails somewhere else.

If you’re affected, reset your access and check those rules directly. Because this isn’t just about your website.
