Client Overview

Montserrat Day Hospitals is a leading provider of day hospitals in Australia, offering a wide range of clinical services across multiple states. In 2017, Montserrat engaged Pixelbird to overhaul its web presence, beginning with a complete redesign of the main corporate website. Pixelbird’s role quickly grew into a long-term partnership as Montserrat expanded its network of facilities. The client’s goal was to maintain modern, user-friendly websites for each hospital location, all while ensuring consistent branding, robust hosting, and ongoing support for content updates and technical issues.

Solution in Brief: Pixelbird delivered new WordPress websites for over a dozen Montserrat hospitals and clinics, provided continuous maintenance under a care plan, supported content changes and SEO enhancements, and managed a large-scale migration of all sites to WP Engine hosting. From the outset, Pixelbird’s team worked closely with Montserrat’s corporate services to design and develop websites that meet the needs of various day hospitals under the Montserrat umbrella. After successfully launching the main Montserrat site in late 2017, the Montserrat Business Manager  immediately retained Pixelbird as the “monthly provider” for website maintenance.

Over the following years, Pixelbird delivered 19 separate web projects for Montserrat, ranging from full site builds to incremental upgrades. Notably, in 2020 Pixelbird developed eight new hospital websites as Montserrat expanded its network. This included building modern, mobile-responsive sites for facilities like Westside Private Hospital (a major site rebuild in 2023), regional clinics such as Bunbury and Albany Day Hospitals in Western Australia, and specialty clinics (e.g. Queensland Vasectomy Clinic and Perth Vasectomy Clinic) with tailored content.

Each site was delivered using WordPress for easy client updates and consistent user experience across the Montserrat group. Pixelbird’s development scope covered custom theme design, integration of Montserrat’s branding and imagery, and ensuring compliance with healthcare usability standards.

Beyond initial launches, Pixelbird provided ongoing website support under a WordPress Care Plan. This included routine updates (CMS core and plugin updates, security monitoring, backups) and unlimited minor content edits each month. Montserrat frequently requested content changes – and Pixelbird’s team responded rapidly. For example, when Montserrat’s marketing manager needed to add a new specialist doctor profile and an appointment form to a hospital site, Pixelbird implemented the update promptly. When certain clinic pages required SEO improvements (like updating meta titles/descriptions), Pixelbird carried out “SEO Ready” enhancements as standalone projects.

The partnership’s flexibility meant Pixelbird could handle urgent tasks as well:

In one instance, Montserrat had sold three hospitals and asked Pixelbird to remove those locations from the website immediately, a request handled within minutes while the primary contact was on leave. Over the years, Pixelbird also rolled out new features such as a “Find Your Doctor” directory upgrade for North Lakes Day Hospital and a refreshed news & articles section for the main site. All support was delivered under strict change control to avoid downtime, and Montserrat’s team often noted the smooth, hassle-free experience. After Pixelbird fixed an online booking form issue in 2024, the client replied: “The form is working well 😊” – a small example of the positive feedback resulting from our support responsiveness.

One hallmark of this case is the longevity and adaptability of Pixelbird’s service. Over an eight-year relationship, Montserrat underwent internal changes, and Pixelbird navigated each seamlessly. The partnership started with the Business Manager in 2017, then transitioned to the Marketing Manager as the primary liaison for most projects.

There were periods where other team members stepped in, such as the National Business Development Manager who coordinated web updates during staff leave or business transitions.

Pixelbird earned the trust of each stakeholder. For instance, when Sophie was away, Ken emailed: “Sophie is off on leave… I need three hospital locations removed… Can you do this?” and within 15 minutes Pixelbird had executed the changes, prompting Ken’s reply, “Awesome thanks Dustin”.

Montserrat’s leaders consistently expressed confidence in Pixelbird. Early on, after the initial site launch, Nadia wrote to Pixelbird: “Can we go ahead and get you guys as our monthly provider?”, converting the project into an ongoing retainer.
